A New Bus For London - Heatherwick Studios










Here are some photos of the prototype of Thomas Heatherwick‘s redesign of the iconic routemaster bus for London.

The design incorporates two staircases and three doors, including a hop-on-hop-off platform at the back of the bus.


Spinning Light - Benjamin Hubert




This collection, called Spinning Light by designer Benjamin Hubert, is made of spun aluminium shades with injection-moulded PVC fittings. The pieces aim to resemble spinning-top toys. The lacquered finish is available in black, white and purple.

Vivero Ellipse Chair - Timo Ripatti

Made of chromed steel and birch plywood with a wool fabric for the upholstery, the Vivero Ellipse chair by Timo Ripatti is as decorative as it is functional.

Elevate - Gillian Westley




Designer Gillian Westley has created a range of cooking utensils that don’t leave a mess on worktops.
The Elevate range, produced by kitchenware brand Joseph Joseph, consists of six implements with central pivots and weighted handles, which keep mess clear of work surfaces.

ArcelorMittal Orbit - Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond




Construction of the controversial 115 metre-high sculpture that artist Anish Kapoor and structural engineer Cecil Balmond designed for the London 2012le Olympic park is now compte. 

Visitors will enter a central elevator to ascend the steel tower, arriving at an observation deck with a panoramic view of the city. To exit, they will be encouraged to climb down a staircase of 455 steps that spirals around the tower’s exterior.

Around 560 metres of red tubular steel form the structure and 250 coloured spotlights illuminate it at night. Internal fit-out will begin soon and the attraction will open to the public before the games begin in July.




Kobi Chair - Patrick Norguet



French designer Patrick Norguet has completed 'Kobi', an armchair for Italian furniture manufacturer Alias.

Moonbird - Yuikio Hashimoto



Lighting manufacturers Yamagiwa have launched a lamp called Moonbird by Japanese designer Yukio Hashimoto.


Each body is individually carved in wood. State of the art light source technology is applied for the ultra-thin sleek illuminated panel.

Baeza Town Hall - Viar Estudio



Patchy timber shields the glazed upper storeys of this extension to a historic town hall in southern Spain by architects Viar Estudio.

Above the glazed doors to the extension, an extended first floor cantilevers outwards to shelter arriving visitors.

The interior walls of the original town hall remain exposed and intact, so the junctions between new and old are highlighted. 




Nokia Pure Font - Dalton Maag



London designers Dalton Maag have created a font for mobile phone brand Nokia to work in any language.

Called Nokia Pure, it’s been designed to accommodate languages using Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic and Hebrew alphabets, plus Devanagari and Thai, with more languages including Chinese to follow.

House in Kamakura - Suppose Design Office


Japanese architects Suppose Design Office have completed a house in Kamakura, Japan, which consists of a steel frame constructed between two concrete shafts.









The residence is built directly on an uneven plot of land, and the design aims to overcome the expected structural issues.

This design and method of construction enabled the architects to keep excavation work to a minimum, a time consuming process usually essential when building on uneven land.


Medici Chair - Konstantin Grcic


Born on the floor of a carpentry studio, 'Medici', the wooden chair created by Munich based industrial designer Konstantin Grcic for Italian manufacturer Mattiazzi, follows the natural quality of the material from which it is formed.



Three types of wood, thermo treated ash, walnut and douglas are joined at irregular angles resulting in a comfortably reclined seating object.



Villa Topoject - AND


A cedar-clad house near Seoul by Korean architects AND spirals up from beneath the ground.


A decked terrace at ground floor level overlooks a shallow pool of water in the garden. A grass lawn surrounding the house slopes onto the building to cover the roof, where a concealed, walled garden is located.

 A living room, bedroom, study and greenhouse occupy the first floor, while a guest suite and storage area are buried into the landscape below. 




Moolin - Lasfera


These curved Moolin lamps, by Beijing studio Lasfera, are created using a traditional Chinese craft of heating and bending bamboo strips.


The bamboo is left unfinished and can be recycled. The lamps are available in different sizes and proportions. 


House At Alibag - Malik Architecture


Designed by Indian studio Malik Architecture, House at Alibag is located on a hilltop facing the Mumbai skyline. 


At the centre of the three-storey building is an open courtyard, over-sailed by bridges connecting rooms on the first and second floors.

Faceted walls and ceilings line rooms throughout the house and are perforated by both rectangular and triangular windows.





DC10 Dining Chair - Inoda + Sveje


Milan based design firm Inoda + Sveje have designed 'DC10', a dining chair for Miyazaki Chair Factory Co. 


The continuous shape is a combination of both modern production and hand-made construction.

B&B Italia Showroom - Pitsou Kedem






Israeli architects Pitsou Kedem have completed a showroom for furniture brand B&B Italia inside an industrial warehouse by the harbour in Tel Aviv.

Silicate panels line the western wall of the 11-metre-high hall, while other interior walls are clad in concrete panels. A deep-framed entrance leads visitors inside, where a rusted metal staircase climbs up to a narrow mezzanine that bridges the full width of the showroom.

A wall of metal-framed window panels divides the space into two and some of them pivot open as doors.

747 Wing House - Studio of Environmental Architecture



The roof of this Malibu house is made from the wings of an aeroplane. The suspended wings rest over self-supporting glass walls that front the hillside house, which was designed by American architects Studio of Environmental Architecture.

Parts of the aeroplane tail shelter the master bedroom, while the fuselage covers a guesthouse, barn and artist’s studio that are each housed in separate buildings.

The architects had to register the house with the Federal Aviation Authority so that pilots would not mistake it for a crashed jet. 


Deesawat Thai Outdoor Collection 2012


Thai design firm Deesawat have displayed their latest outdoor lounge furniture collection.



Each possess a wide base paired with an elongated and tapered backrest. the unique silhouette of the series ultimately informs collection's name - 'The Bottle'.

House S - Keiji Ashizawa Design


Every floor of this Tokyo house by Japanese studio Keiji Ashizawa Design opens onto a garden or terrace.


Inside, a living and dining area spans the entire ground floor and opens out to a garden flanked by trees. A winding staircase leads to the two upper storeys, where four bedrooms each have their own dressing rooms.
