Michael Salter’s 10 limited edition Subzero figurines are down-trodden porcelain characters that represent a jaded, despondent population, discouraged by its inability to effect change or maintain idealism. Salter is explicit with his message, stating on the toy’s packaging that each Subzero creature suffers from a “depression that has resulted in a sensation of paralysis,” aware of the injustices around him but disappointed in the futility of his efforts. “It makes him retreat and do nothing, less than nothing.”
