The Passenger Bar and Restaurant, Madrid

The Passenger Bar and Restaurant, Madrid, Spain

The recently opened Passenger Bar and Restaurant, by Parolio, is a retro dining experience, with rich, heavy finishes of leather, brass and dark wood. The theme of Passenger, is the idea of travelling in a train car, during the height of 1930s rail travel. This concept is most notably felt through the windows, where screens play a video stream showing landscape passing by, flowing from window to window, creating the feeling of looking of a moving train.

Boat’s House at Millstätter Lake, Austria

Boat’s House at Millstätter Lake, Seeboden, Austria

The Boat’s House at Millstätter Lake by MHM Architects. Sitting at the water's edge, the building is clad in two materials
reflecting the relationship of the footprint over water and land. Over section land is wrapped with copper panels,
while the section extending over the water is clad with lumber planks.

Regulations prevent the building of a permanent dock, which has lead to a facade system that creates a simple cube when not in use.
Doors can then slide downward when in use to form platforms.

Sogn & Fjordane Kunstmuseum, Norway

Sogn & Fjordane Kunstmuseum, Førde, Norway

The Sogn & Fjordane Kunstmuseum by C.F. Møller, is described as a “block of ice that has slid down from the surrounding mountains”, settling in the town of Førde sitting at the edge of the Jostedalsbreen glacier,  which is the largest body of ice in continental Europe.
This idea is reflected within the frosted glass facade of the art museum and illuminated fracture lines that run across the four-storey building. The galleries are accessed by a piercing angular blue staircase that spirals up through the space.
