Boiling Hot Water Faucet - Grohe Red

Grohe, Europe's largest manufacturer of sanitary fittings has released Grohe Red, a faucet that draws boiling filtered water at 99 ºC directly from the tap.

By keeping three litres of hot liquids ready for immediate use at all times, the fixture is perfect for instant cups of tea and coffee or cooking pasta on demand. A child lock system is incorporated into the design preventing children from accidentally burning themselves.

The new system promotes sustainable energy consumption, eliminating the need to use a kettle.

Nike GS Green Speed - Andy Caine

The Nike GS or Green Speed is constructed in a manner which is both low environmental impact while also maintaining performance engineering as a primary concern. UK-born, US-based designer Andy Caine has developed the lightest, fastest, and lowest environmental impact production boot for Nike to date.

The traction plate of the boot is crafted from a mix of material including 50% castor beans and 50% plastic where the sock liner is made from 100% castor beans. The laces, tongue and lining of the Nike GS, are formed from a minimum of 70% recycled materials while the collar and toeboard have a material makeup including least 15% recycled matter.

This is the first wide-reaching production demonstration by Nike of the potential for sustainable or low-impact design in the development of high performance football boots.

Nike Mag 2011

The original Nike Mag was worn by the Back to the Future character Marty Mcfly,
played by Michael J Fox. It came alive, lit up and formed to Marty’s foot.
The 2011 Nike Mag shoe was designed to be a precise replica of the original from Back to the Future II.

The aesthetic is an exact match, down to the contours of the upper,
the glowing led panel and the electroluminescent 'Nike' in the strap. The 2011 Nike Mag illuminates with the pinch of the ear of the high top, glowing for five hours per charge.

1500 pairs of the 2011 Nike Mag will be auctioned on ebay with all net proceeds going directly to the Michael J Fox Foundation. Each day for the duration of the ten-day auction, one hundred and fifty pairs of the 2011 Nike Mag shoes will be made available via ebay’s fashion vault.

Iris - Mimi Zou

This eye-tracking camera by Royal College of Art graduate Mimi Zou is controlled by blinking and squinting – and even recognises your friends when it looks into their eyes.

The Iris camera uses biometric technology to identify people by looking at their unique iris signatures. If the user’s iris is recognised, the camera will automatically load their preferred settings – including aperture, ISO and screen display.

As the user looks through the lens, they can zoom in and out by narrowing or widening their eyelids. To take the photo, they simply hold their gaze and double blink.

Designed To Win - Luc Fusaro

French born Luc Fusaro, masters candidate at London's Royal College of Art, has developed the bespoke athlete performance shoe Designed To Win.

It is the most lightweight sprint shoe ever made at 96 grams, and the only stiff form to be composed of a single piece. Prototype testing demonstrates that the shoe improves performance by 3.5%, which for Olympic athletes might be the 0.35 second sprinting difference required to place in an event.

Each shoe is custom-designed for the individual athlete. Fusaro's process begins with a 3D scan of the person's foot. On the computer, Fusaro generates the form of the sole, of which thickness varies in accordance with the foot's specific structure. A testing environment lets him test tension and flexibility on the unit, before 3D printing it in sintered nylon polyamide powder.

Orbea Grow - Alex Fernandez Camps

This bicycle that has been designed to grow with your child by Spanish designer Álex Fernández Camps has been awarded the top prize at the Delta Awards for industrial design at FADfest in Barcelona.

Most bikes allow for the handle bars and saddle to be raised but the Orbea Grow also has an expanding frame that can be lengthened in the middle.

Another advantage of Orbea Grow is the ergonomic fit that reduces economic and environmental costs, ensuring that each bike adapts to each child.
